What is vaginal laxity?

Normal vagina (before vaginal laxity) The vagina after vaginal laxity
The muscles of the vaginal periphery and introitus are sagging and flaccid, and the vaginal mucous membrane becomes relaxed at the same time. The muscular contractility decreases and the capacity to control this muscle becomes abnormal. These conditions are referred to as “vaginal laxity.” When vaginal laxity continues, the other supporting structures in the pelvis may also show laxity, which widens the internal and external vaginal diameters. The widened internal and external diameters decreases sexual sensitivity during sexual activities, and such women lose self-confidence.
Causes of Vaginal Laxity
There are women with various conditions, such as childbirth, abortion, repeated gynecological treatments, frequent sexual activities, aging, obesity, or thin pelvic muscles.
Which women will require vaginoplasty?
An already lax vagina is diffult to recover, and may require rejuvenation surgery to return to its original condition. A consultation for vaginoplasty is required for women with symptoms as follows:
- Women who had childbirth twice or more, or women with only one childbirth, but had a difficult labor or gave a birth to a very healthy big child and for vaginal laxity is quite severe.
- Women who desire increased vaginal contractility for more satisfying sex.
- Women who produce a sound of air coming out of the vagina during the sex.
- Women who often experience displacement of their partner’s penis during the sex.
- Women who have difficulty contracting the vagina during sex as before.
- Women who have a symptom of urinary incontinence after childbirth, and have a feeling of their perineum (bottom) falling out.
- Women who have a sensation of having a stretched-out vagina, and often have repeated vaginal inflammation.
- Women who have a feeling of water flowing into the vagina when in the water.
- Women who want to return and bring back the perineum and pelvis, just in time for a second marriage.

What is vaginal plastic surgery (Rejuvenation Vaginoplasty)?
It is an operation to correct a streteched vaginal mucous membrane and slackened pelvic muscles caused by childbirth or repeated coitus. The procedure involves incision of the posterior vaginal wall, and pulling together and suturing of the pelvic muslces and fascia associated with vaginal contractility. A part of a stretched mucous membrane is removed and the diameter of the internal vagina can be decreased, strengthening vaginal contractility. The main goal of vaginoplasty is to make the vagina narrow, and to recover the injured musculature of the pelvic floor. With respect to reduction of such widened vagina, rather than focusing on reduction of the vaginal membrane, in reality, we properly connect the inferior muscles of the pelvis and the fascia, which support the vagina and the rectum. This is true vaginal reduction surgery. In other words, it is a type of functional anti-aging, rejuvenation vaginoplasty that regains the previous morphologic state of the damaged vaginal perineum and pelvic musculature, caused by various causes, such as childbirth, aging and frequent sexual activities
Surgery Information
Partial (local) and sedative anesthesia may be implemented depending on a patient’s desire and demand at the Yoonho Hospital. Patients may undergo surgery almost without pain, especially, by utilizing a proper combination of both sedative and partial anesthesia during surgery.
The surgery is completed within one hour. After surgery, the patient may walk out of the hospital alone, only after 30 minutes of rest. The internal mucous membranes and muscles of the vagina are innervated by the visceral nerves, dull to pain, and are less painful after surgery. However, individuals perceive pain differently after surgery, and are likely to be sore at the most. They are not burdened with the difficulty of their daily lives. At Yoonho Hospital, a pudendal block produces nearly no pain after surgery.
